A graduate of São Paulo State University (UNESP), where he earned his veterinary degree, master’s, and PhD—with research focused on acupuncture and intervertebral disc disease—Dr. Joaquim has built deep expertise in neurology, pain management, sports medicine, and regenerative therapies.
An internationally sought-after speaker and educator, Dr. Joaquim has delivered over 500 lectures and authored more than 50 scientific publications, helping shape the future of complementary and integrative veterinary medicine worldwide. Dr. Kathy Backus, DVM, has nearly 30 years of clinical experience across all species, practicing in rural Utah, Arizona, and Nevada. A graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, she has specialized in medical ozone therapy. Dr. Backus has been an O3Vets-certified ozone therapy trainer for over 10 years, bringing both clinical expertise and teaching experience to the field.

To make thing easy, we'll meet at the same venue as the AHVMA conference. Relax by the pool or head over to their gym and get in a good workout before the day begins in this pet-friendly hotel.
We recommend flying into San Diego since it's a short drive to where we will be holding the training course.
What hotel should I stay at?
The AHVMA conference will be held at the Town and Country Resort starting on Saturday. We will be holding our training class there on Thursday and Friday to make it a convenient transition if you intend to stay for the conference.
Will I need my own transportation?
Public transportation, Uber and Lyft are all options but renting a car makes it more convenient. Keep in mind that it costs $15/day to park at the hotel.
Will this course be CE certified?
Currently we are RAIVE approved. This approval is accepted in the following states:
